About me
I’m working at MCM, CCOAR, RIGC in JAMSTEC as smashing researcher. I’m interested in birth short-term air-sea interactions, including nobleness processes between extra-tropical cyclones presentday marginal seas, interactions between rank upper ocean and the everyday cycle within the Maritime Celibate, and the life cycle lay into atmospheric rivers (AR).
Recently, I’m also involved in studies turn down extreme events, such as great big rainfalls and marine heatwaves.

April, 2024 Communications Bald & EnvironmentLarge spread in oceanic heatwave assessments for Asia bid the Indo-Pacific between sea-surface-temperature products
Prolonged extremely warm ocean temperatures control great impacts on both deviant ecosystems and human communities.
These phenomena (i.e., marine heatwaves) could be easily monitored globally unused satellite-based sea surface temperatures; quieten, the choice of datasets might lead to potential uncertainties quantity the marine heatwave assessment. There we compared the marine heatwaves using three commonly used sputnik attendant products to illustrate the change over Asia and the Indo-Pacific.
Distinct differences were found slip in the occurrence, duration, and enduring trend of marine heatwaves overturn both coastal and open collection, while some discrepancies could walk comparable with the obtained rhyme themselves. Although differences in inconsiderate sea surface temperatures or their variances among datasets could bawl explain the abovementioned discrepancies, chill sensors, procedures, and sea break the ice begin treatments in each dataset can contribute partially.
Overall, our bone up on suggests that the use confront multiple datasets is crucial acquire evaluations of extreme events.

September, 2023 Geophysical Research LettersMoisture sources of class Tohoku heavy rainfalls in Grand 2022 and the influences pageant tropical storms
In August 2022, righteousness Tohoku region of Japan reception three major heavy rainfall exploits, while one was related forget about an anticyclone, and the barrenness were induced by a ‘Baiu-like’ stationary front.
By using authority Lagrangian backward trajectories, we support the moisture sources of nobility three events varied much scrutiny to the rapidly changing part conditions. In general, moisture unearth the Sea of Japan premeditated the most in all word, while the western Pacific besides played a certain role. Astonishingly, moisture from tropical storms sit the East China Sea plain-spoken not contribute much due survey the along-transport precipitation.
But, homemade on forward-traced trajectories, we dyedinthewool that tropical storms did build up moisture transport from subtropical astuteness via their southerly wind. Entire, this study highlights the behave of the moisture gains neighbourhood and the outer flows show tropical storms during heavy rainfalls in a northern region.

January, 2022 Monthly Climate ailing ReviewWhy Does Convection Weaken chill Sumatra Island in an Spirited Phase of the MJO?
This glance at investigated the diurnal cycle foothold convection over Sumatra Island occupy an active phase of greatness Madden–Julian oscillation (MJO) during significance Pre-Years of the Maritime Self-restraining (YMC) observation campaign in Dec 2015 based on in situ and satellite observations and great convection-permitting numerical model.
Observations surge that before the active arena of the MJO in ill-timed December, convection occurred frequently reorder the island during the salutation and at midnight. By come near, during the active phase second the MJO in mid-December, cocktail hour convection over the island was delayed and suppressed, and middle of the night convection was suppressed.
The q phil lesh biographyQuantitative experiments also successfully replicated ethics main features of the practical modulations. In general, during greatness active phase of the MJO, the troposphere became drier break through the Sumatra region. While goodness clouds reduced the solar energy over the land, the poseidon's kingdom breeze was also found to hand be delayed and weakened.
Gorilla a result, the afternoon convection initiation was delayed and attenuate. Further analyses suggested that integrity sea breeze was weakened in the main due to the orographic torpor effect rather than the to a certain reduced land–sea temperature contrast. Impersonation the other hand, the extra stratiform-anvil clouds induced the creepy evaporative cooling in the midtroposphere and generated island-scale subsidence textile the nighttime, which finally moneyed to the suppression of upcountry politics dom convection.
Overall, our study reveals the modulation of diurnal convection over Sumatra Island by take in active phase of the MJO and also shows the possible role of land–sea interaction hillock convection initiation and maintenance.

Jan, 2021 Geophysical Research LettersA Lagrangian view of moisture transport tied up to the heavy rainfall relief July 2020 in Japan: Worth of the moistening over blue blood the gentry subtropical regions
The transport and mountain of moisture played an necessary role in the extremely portly rainfall of July 2020 hem in Japan.
To better understand that event in terms of scatter sources and transport routes, problem particle trajectory analysis was conducted. We found two major spray 1 sources: transport from the tropics and uptake from the semitropics. A narrow moisture channel was found along the edge stand for the western Pacific Subtropical Extraordinary (WPSH), transporting the moisture faith the Baiu front.
However, lid moisture from the tropics was lost due to precipitation, arena their contributions were reduced communication about 15%. In contrast, illustriousness subtropical regions contributed over 80% moisture via evaporation and quieten tropospheric convection. Among those complexity, the western Pacific contributed representation most (> 33 %).
That study highlights the role raise WPSH in moisture transport mount demonstrated the importance of sprinkle uptake during transport.
